Stridefly vs Empower

Empower's personal dashboard is used by people who want net worth, cash flow and retirement planning across web and mobile. If you invest with a plan of your own, Stridefly fills the gap with allocation targets you set yourself, drift and a rebalance plan.

What Empower is built for

Empower connects bank, card, investment and retirement accounts into one dashboard on web, iOS and Android. It includes a budgeting and cash flow tool, automatic transaction categorization and retirement planning, with a strong focus on the long view: where your net worth stands and whether it is on course.

Its investment views list holdings and allocation from linked accounts. The Investment Checkup compares your allocation with a suggested allocation by risk level, and the You Index benchmarks your current holdings against the market. It suits people who want a broad read on retirement readiness and on where their money sits, more than a tool to manage a specific allocation.

Where investors run into limits

  • The Investment Checkup compares you with Empower's own suggested allocations. Its help center says the checkup doesn't allow custom allocations, so a mix you chose, such as a three-fund split, can't be the benchmark.
  • The You Index is defined in Empower's help center as the performance of your current holdings extrapolated backward, and it doesn't include individual bonds, options or alternatives. It describes today's mix, not the path your accounts took.
  • Importing history isn't supported. Empower's help center says it doesn't allow importing historical data from Excel or other documents, and offers no direct import from a previous app. Transactions can be exported to CSV.
  • Drift against a target you set, and rebalance amounts, aren't part of Empower's documented features.

What Stridefly adds

  • Targets you set, drift and a rebalance plan. You enter the mix you actually want, and Stridefly compares your allocation, by asset class and sub-class, with it and lists the buy and sell amounts that would bring you back.
  • CSV import for positions, transactions and net worth history, with skipped rows listed, so your own history comes with you.
  • A mark next to any price that is out of date or any value that is estimated, so you can see when a number rests on an estimate.
  • Your data on your phone and in your own iCloud account. Stridefly gives no investment, tax or financial advice, and the rebalance plan is arithmetic against your own targets.
